Katemcy Rocks Off-Road Park
Katemcy Rocks is a 700-acre private off-road park specializing in rock crawling and technical 4WD riding in the Texas Hill Country north of Mason in Mason County, the exposed granite and sandstone country of the Llano Uplift, Texas's geologically oldest landscape where Precambrian bedrock from 1.1 billion years ago creates terrain unlike anything else in the state. The Llano Uplift setting is the defining characteristic of Katemcy Rocks: the exposed pink granite outcroppings, the sandstone ledges, and the natural rock gardens that give the park its name are genuine geological features rather than purpose-built obstacles, providing rock crawling terrain that has drawn serious technical off-road enthusiasts from across the country to what is otherwise a remote corner of central Texas. The trail network is rated by difficulty with the hardest trails designed specifically for full-build rock crawlers: adjustable-lockable-axle Jeeps, purpose-built rigs with winches, and the kind of competition-grade vehicles that compete in regional rock crawling series. Beginner and intermediate trails are available for stock-build 4x4s and UTVs, but Katemcy Rocks' reputation is built on the advanced technical challenges that separate it from the mud-focused East Texas parks. The park hosts major events throughout the year including rock crawling competitions, the Tierra Del Sol-style endurance events, and manufacturer product testing.
